Color PaletteBurnt orange (main), cream/off-white (muzzle, belly, tail tip, inner ear), dark brown (ear tips, paws, nose), red (heart)
Materials SummaryDK or worsted weight yarn in orange, cream, dark brown, and red; 3.0–3.5 mm hook; black embroidery floss; toy stuffing; tapestry needle; stitch marker; scissors

Materials Needed

Yarn Colors

Orange (Main)Head, body, arms (upper), legs (upper), tail base
Cream / Off-WhiteMuzzle panel, belly patch, inner ears, tail tip
Dark BrownEar tips, paw tips (arms & legs), nose ball

Also needed: a small amount of red yarn for the heart appliqué.

  • DK or worsted weight yarn – approx. 100–150g orange, 50g cream, 30g dark brown, 10g red
  • Crochet hook, 3.0–3.5 mm
  • Black embroidery floss (for closed-eye arches and smile)
  • Polyester toy stuffing – generous amount
  • Tapestry needle, stitch marker, scissors, pins for assembly
Closed Eyes – No Safety Eyes Needed This fox features a sweet closed-eye expression – both eyes are fully embroidered arcs using black floss. No safety eyes are used, making the fox completely safe for all ages including babies and toddlers.
Yarn & Hook Note DK or worsted weight with a 3.0–3.5 mm hook gives the firm, dense fabric essential for amigurumi. You should not see the stuffing through the stitches. If your fabric looks loose, go down half a hook size.

Skill Notes & Tips

Continuous Spiral – No Joining Work all rounds in a continuous spiral without joining at the end of each round. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round and move it up as you go. Count stitches after every round.
Stuffing Strategy Stuff the head and body very firmly. The sitting fox needs a well-stuffed body to keep the head balanced and upright. Stuff arms and legs moderately – they should be soft enough to sit naturally at the sides. Stuff the tail lightly so it curves gently.
Embroidering the Closed Eyes & Smile Use 2 strands of black embroidery floss. For each eye, embroider a smooth upward-curving arc approximately 7–8 stitches wide between rounds 10–12 of the head. Curve the ends slightly downward for the “sleepy smile” look. Add 2–3 short eyelash lines at the outer end of each arc. For the smile, embroider a shallow upward curve just below the muzzle, 3–4 stitches wide.
Belly Patch & Muzzle Panel Both the belly patch and the muzzle panel are made as separate flat pieces and sewn on – this gives full control over placement and is recommended for beginners over in-round color changes.

Assembly

Pin all parts before sewing. Check proportions from a distance before committing each piece.

  1. Belly Patch & Heart: Sew the cream belly patch to the front of the body, spanning rounds 8–20. Sew or embroider the red heart centered on the upper portion of the belly patch (approx. rounds 10–13 of body).
  2. Muzzle Panel: Pin the cream muzzle oval to the lower front of the head, centered between rounds 14–20. Sew all the way around its edge. Sew the dark brown nose ball to the center top of the muzzle.
  3. Embroider Face: Using 2 strands of black floss, embroider closed-eye arcs (rounds 10–12, 10 stitches apart, with 2–3 lash lines at each outer end) and a shallow smile curve below the nose.
  4. Head to Body: Center the head on top of the body with the face pointing forward. Sew firmly all the way around through multiple stitches.
  5. Ears: Position both ears at the top of the head, 6–8 stitches apart, angled slightly outward and backward with cream inner face pointing forward. Sew through the flattened base.
  6. Arms: Sew to the sides of the body at rounds 4–6 from the top. Paws point slightly inward and downward.
  7. Legs: Sew to the bottom front of the body, pointing forward and slightly outward. Dark brown paw tips face forward. Ensure the fox sits upright and stable before knotting.
  8. Tail: Sew to the back lower section of the body. Curve the tail around to one side so the cream tip is visible from the front.
  9. Final Check: Tug every sewn part gently. Re-stitch anything loose. Trim and weave in all remaining yarn ends.

Finishing & Care

Once fully assembled, give your fox a gentle reshape. The head should be large and round, the body oval and plump, and the arms and legs soft and slightly floppy. The tail should curve naturally around one side.

Color Variations: Try a grey body with white belly for an Arctic fox, deep rust and white for a classic autumn look, or lavender and cream for a fantasy version. The construction is identical in any palette.

Washing: Hand wash gently in cool water with mild soap. Reshape while damp and allow to air dry completely away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
